Om de armoede substantieel terug te dringen en de
levensomstandigheden van het merendeel van de
bevolking te verbeteren moet een economische groei
van 10% of meer per jaar worden bereikt. De strategie
om dit doel te bereiken is een totale omvorming van de
economie waarvoor aanzienlijke investeringen nodig
zijn in de ondersteunende infrastructuur, verbeterde
sociale voorzieningen en de ontwikkeling van de private
sector. De prioriteiten die hiervoor zijn gesteld zijn:
1. Het uitbreiden van de nationale
elektriciteitsvoorziening;
2. Het ontwikkelen van het nationale transport netwerk;
3. Het verhogen van de agrarische productiviteit en
concurrentievermogen;
4. Het stimuleren van een duurzame ontwikkeling
van de bevolking, met name wat betreft scholing en
gezondheidszorg.
Het Best of Both Worlds Programma en de activiteiten
van de Stichting Lion Heart Foundation (LHF) en haar
offcieel in Sierra Leone geregistreerde Internationale
Non Gouvernementele Organisatie INGO Lion Heart
Foundation sluiten hier naadloos bij aan. Momenteel
concentreren de activiteiten van LHF zich op het
plaatsje Yele en omgeving in het Gbonkolenken
Chiefdom in Tonkolili, een van de vijf armste districten
in Sierra Leone (zie verder hoofdstuk 3).
2.2 Bestuur en team Stichting LHF in Nederland
Eind 2011 was het bestuur van de Stichting Lion Heart
Foundation als volgt samengesteld:

Cornelie de Jong, secretaris/penningmeester
Jacques C.H. van de Meulen
Herman F. Veen
Het bestuur is onbezoldigd.
Het kantoor in Nederland werd bemand door Fred
Nederlof, Pien Bax-Engelsman, offce manager, logistiek
en public relations en Caroline van der Graaf-Scheffer,
fondsenwerving en sponsor contacten. Johan Luijting
was fnancieel controller. Don Keus was de operationeel
manager van LHF. Beide laatstgenoemden bevonden
zich regelmatig voor kortere of langere tijd in Sierra
Leone. Het team in Nederland werd sterk ondersteund
door de leden van het bestuur en een aantal
vrijwilligers.

the Lion Heart Foundation and it’s offcially registered
International Non Governmental Organisation INGO
Lion Heart Foundation in Sierra Leone, link up perfectly
with this Government strategy. At the moment the
activities of Lion Heart focus on the little town of Yele
and surroundings in the Gbonkolenken Chiefdom in
Tonkolili, one of the fve poorest districts in Sierra Leone.

Board of Governors and team of LHF in The Netherlands
By the end of 2011 the (unpaid) Board of Governors of the
Lion Heart Foundation consisted of:
Fred J. Nederlof, chairman
Cornelie de Jong, secretary/treasurer
Jacques C.H. van de Meulen
Herman F. Veen
The offce was staffed by Fred Nederlof, Pien Bax-
Engelsman, offce manager and public relations and
Caroline van der Graaf-Scheffer, fundraising and sponsor
contacts. Johan Luijting acted as fnancial controller.
Don Keus was the LHF overall operations manager. Johan
and Don were regularly in Sierra Leone for both long
and short periods of time. The team in The Netherlands
received strong support from the members of the board
of governors and numerous volunteers.
